Sentient's Membership Program

Airplane

Sentient Jet is one of the largest, most reputable Private Jet Membership Programs. Members deposit funds on account, and in return are guaranteed an Occupied Hourly Rate for their private jet usage.

Program Overview

  • Aircraft Selection: Members select an aircraft 'category' (Light, Mid or Heavy), and 'class' (Older or Newer Aircraft), but beyond that, Members have very little control over the type of aircraft that they will fly on. Sentient chooses the aircraft for each trip based on its ability to use the same aircraft for another customer's trip.
  • Occupied Hourly Pricing: Members pay for actual flight time (with a 1-hour daily flight minimum) according to a two-tier pricing schedule: one-way or round-trip.
    • Round-trip pricing is 20% less than one-way pricing. To qualify as a round-trip, Member's billable flight time must equal 2 hrs for every day of travel.

Vulnerabilities to Hedging

Regent Jet Membership empowers Sentient Members to hedge against their program when Sentient hours are overpriced

  • Round Trips: Round trips, as defined by Sentient Membership, are a major profit center in Sentient's model. Since round trip pricing is only 20% less than one way pricing, they heavily subsidize many of Sentient's one way loss-leaders
  • One Ways: Members who have some flexibility with their schedule can often secure an Empty Leg through Regent Jet at a steep discount.
  • Aircraft Make/Model Certainty: Sentient Members often find that they require more information about their aircraft than Sentient offers. For example:
    • Given the pricing scheme, Members often find themselves in the same aircraft type: ('Preferred Midsize' usually means a Lear 60, Citation Excel or Hawker 800XP) - while this is fine for some travelers, others want to experience more desirable aircraft such as the Citation X, Challenger 300 and Gulfstream 100/200
    • Members who want to choose a heavy jet with comfortable seating for 15 have few options with Sentient
    • Fundamentally, Members feel that it is unfair to be assigned a Challenger 604 or Legacy while others can be assigned a Gulfstream IV or Falcon 900
  • One-Ways to Popular Destinations: For travelers flying along high-density lanes (for example, Northeast to Florida), Regent Jet Members with schedule flexibility can often realize substantial savings.
  • Peak Period Days: Sentient Members who require lift on Peak Period days are out-of-luck, as Sentient is unable to deliver service at their fixed prices. Regent Jet is almost always able to secure lift during peak period days at competitive rates.

Conversely, Sentient is often a good value for:

  • One-way flights to Mexico and the Caribbean
  • Short one-way flights (New York to Martha's Vineyard, Los Angeles to Las Vegas)
  • Trips that originate in out-of-the-way locales (Port Angeles, WA to Bozeman, MT)
